Because a great breakfast sets you up for a great day, whether it’s a day out enjoying the views and vistas of our fabulous county, or a day out in the hills cycling or rambling.
It’s the most important meal of the day.

Tempt your taste buds with a compote of home grown rhubarb, when in season, with some yoghurt accompanied with one of Thorncroft's zingy cordials, whichever appeals most from Wild Elderflower, Autumn Rosehip or Cranberry and Hibiscus, or a bowl of freshly prepared pink grapefruit. Should you feel like warming the cockles of your heart dip into a bowl of steaming whiskey porridge oats or try our Alnwick Rum and raisin porridge oats, delicious.

Our homemade muesli is a hit with those who like a bit of a treat, oats, barley, wheat bran, seasonal dried fruits and our secret ingredients can be enjoyed with a spoonful of our own honey drizzled over the top. Yummy.

If you have still got room you might like to follow with T. R. Johnson of Wooler rare breed pork sausage and home cured bacon, local Christon Bank eggs, mushrooms, oven baked tomatoes and a slice of home made bread made with flour from Gilchester Organics.

Should you feel like something lighter try a tasty omelette with local Doddington cheese and herbs from our courtyard garden, or an L. Robson and Sons famous Craster kipper fillet served very simply. They need very little else apart from some homemade bread , or perhaps some homemade oat cakes or a sliced tomato to round up a breakfast fit for royalty. Alternatively we can scramble you some eggs until they are creamy and crown them with Craster smoked salmon.

As a finale our homemade bread can be served toasted with Coldmartin marmalades and preserves or a slice of honeycomb. And help yourself to a refreshing cup of Ringtons tea, a cafetiere of coffee or a selection of speciality fruit and herb teas.

We know that our visitors take home with them strong impressions of how good a breakfast can be, and those that normally skip breakfast at home happily go away with our recipes and tell us that they are converted ‘breakfasters’!
