Castles
This region is famous for the age and number of its fortifications. Berwick, Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Norham, Warkworth, Chillingham and Floors are all near at hand. Only 20 minutes drive away is Alnwick Castle now famous as the shooting location for the 'Harry Potter' film and of course The Alnwick Garden. There are also many historic battlefields, such as Flodden Field.
Other Places of Interest
Berwick, with its historic Elizabethan and Edwardian walls; the fishing ports of Seahouses and Eyemouth; the market towns of Wooler, Alnwick and Belford; the picturesque villages of Norham, Ford, Bamburgh; stately homes like Manderston, Paxton House, Mellerstain House, and Floors Castle, to name but a few; Heatherslaw Mill and light railway and Flodden Field are close together - we are ideally placed for visitors to explore the region's many heritage sites and buildings of historical interest.
In particular, the impressive castles, keeps and stately homes located throughout the area provide wonderful opportunities for exploration and discovery. Northumbria is a kingdom of castles - with over 50 to choose from.

Gardens
There are many wonderful gardens and country houses throughout the region, all within easy reach of the hotel. For example, the spectacular Alnwick Garden, or the beautiful and extensive grounds and gardens of Cragside, near Rothbury, are just a few miles away. Belsay Hall's unique gardens are within 30 minutes drive, as are many other historic country houses with their fine gardens.
The Northumberland National Park is one of the regions best attractions. The Park's 398 square miles contain delightful wooded valleys and some of the finest stretches of open moorland in the country. The county also has many superb garden centres and nurseries, located right across the region.

Outdoor activities
There are great opportunities for exploring the abundant wildlife in the area, either along the coast, or in the nearby Cheviot Hills. The Farne Islands in particular are famous for their prolific bird colonies - regular boat trips depart from Seahouses. There are many other sites for the avid wildlife enthusiast however, and we can provide specific facilities for visitors involved in outdoor activities.
Bird Watching
The Farne Islands are famous for the variety of seabirds that nest there. They are also well known for Grace Darling's heroic rescue. Regular boat trips from Seahouses allow you to visit this bird and seal haven. The Tweed valley is home to a large number of resident and seasonal visiting birds who take advantage of the unspoiled countryside.
